Russia halts coal supplies to Ukraine – Polish Radio

For Ukraine, the Russian embargo on coal is a major problem, because about 40 percent of the electricity produced in coal-fired power plants. To cover their energy needs Kiev has to import about one million tons of coal per month.

So far, the main exporter of the Ukrainian market was Russia.

In connection with the occupation of part of the Donbas by separatists, the situation is even more difficult. Although signed a contract for the supply of coal from South Africa, but failed kotrahent supply due to unstable political situation.
