Mateusz Szczurek is a graduate of the Faculty of Economic Sciences. He received his doctorate at the University of Sussex in 2005, and the theme of his work were crises and international liquidity. In 1998 and 2007 took place econometrics courses at the International Center for Money and Banking Studies in Geneva and London. In 1994-1997, he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree at Warsaw University and Columbia University in the City of New York, School of International and Public Affairs. In 1997, he obtained Master of Arts in economics from the international University of Sussex.
For many years associated with ING. In the years 1997-2011 he was an economist of ING Barings and chief economist of ING Bank Slaski. In March 2011, he was chief economist at ING Central and Eastern Europe.
Szczurek became head of the Ministry of Finance in November last year. Previously, he was one of the known economic commentators. Immediately after assuming the post of Minister announced changes, which on one hand would make a more friendly tax authorities to taxpayers, on the other hand would effectively prosecute tax evaders and reduce the general government deficit ratio to GDP. According to the Minister balanced fiscal policy is the foundation, which lacks many countries in Europe.
Directed by Szczurek Ministry has prepared changes in the law that will allow the administration to some taxpayers were replaced by a duty to fulfill PIT.
