Prof. Economist: Polish economy rather uses deflation – Virtual Poland

Professor Jerzy Hausner from the Monetary Policy Council believes that no signals do not indicate that negative inflation was a threat to the economy. As pointed out in December in Poland, the lowest level of deflation occurred during the months it will lose momentum.

“To (deflation) has become dangerous for the Polish economy phenomenon would occur deflationary spiral when consumers refrain from purchasing the hope that prices will be even lower. I note that in Poland, consumers in response to lower prices increase consumption and are therefore satisfied “- said on Friday Hausner at a press conference at a scientific symposium in Szczyrk (Silesia).

He added that no signals do not indicate that deflation was beginning to be dangerous, but that does not mean that there is no problem. Should not be seen as an immediate threat. “The economy can benefit rather than located in Danger” – said the professor.

According to Hausner underlying causes of deflation are external. Include fall in oil prices. “They do not come back too quickly to the level that has already reached” – rated.

According to the economist, currently available forecasts assume that the last month in which deflation will appear in April. “Personally, I suppose it could be a month or two later,” – he stressed.

He added also that Poland has already had “the lowest level of negative inflation,” but pointed out that prices did not begin to grow rapidly. “It is rather the rate of decline will be lower,” – said Hausner.

On Thursday, the Central Statistical Office reported that in December 2014. Prices fell by 1.0 per cent. compared to December 2013. and by 0.3 per cent. to November 2014. Considering the last year to 2013. Prices have not changed. Recently such a low inflation was in 1972.
