Earlier on Monday, the head of the faction of Socialists and Democrats in the European Parliament Gianni Pittella estimated that the Greeks chose wisely in order to put an end to austerity imposed by the European Commission, the European Central Bank and the International Monetary Fund. In contrast, liberal faction chairman Guy Verhofstadt stressed that “the future of Greece is in the euro area and the EU.”
SYRIZA on Monday reached an agreement with the populist right-wing party Independent Greeks ws. the creation of a coalition government.
