According to the Union Regulation butter is a product consisting of milk fat in an amount of from 80 to 90 percent. It may not contain an ounce of vegetable fat. OCCP proceedings were initiated in October 2013 after information from inspectorates of the Trade Inspection. Employees IH took samples of butter produced by Masmal Dairy directly from selected stores throughout the country in which they are offered. After testing in accredited laboratories found that the company Masmal Dairy butter falsified. For example: “Butter extra” contained 61.8 percent. vegetable fat, “Butter Extra 100% original” – 14 percent. vegetable fat, “Amir Extra Butter” – 11.73 percent. According to the law, such products may not be called butter. Meanwhile, labels oils Dairy Masmal erroneously inform consumers that buy butter. If customers know that they are paying for a product made with cheaper ingredients may actually decide to purchase a differe nt product.
For violation of the collective interests of consumers in Masmal Dairy was fined 1 471 250 zł. President of the OCCP ordered to discontinue placing customers in error. The decision is not final, as it is entitled to appeal to the court. The penalty affect – sustainability practices and quality conscious squeeze butter despite earlier decisions IH and the OCCP. Trading Standards will continue to monitor that stores offer products adulterated.
