EBRD to invest 900 million euros in the countries affected by the refugee crisis – Onet.pl

“The ongoing conflict in Syria alone in a horrific tragedy, and we must remember that it caused the gigantic humanitarian crisis beyond the borders of one state “- said Chakrabarti.

“Mass migrations pose enormous challenges for the labor market, social cohesion and public services in the host countries,” – he stressed. He added that particular challenge will be to ensure the professional situation of young people and women.

Financing is to be used mainly to support private sector development, building the necessary infrastructure and the promotion of entrepreneurship in countries that have been most affected by the massive migration, mainly in Turkey and Jordan.

One of the first planned investments will support the amount of $ 14 million upgrading water and sewage infrastructure in Jordan, which is unable to cope with the increased number of users, when the country settled nearly 1.5 million refugees from Syria .

Declaration EBRD fell on the eve of a global summit of the “Friends of Syria” in London, during which representatives of more than 70 governments and international organizations to consider the plan of coordinated support to the war-torn home country. The Polish government will be represented by staying on a visit to London, Prime Minister Beata Szydło.
