World food prices again fell. Most sugar and dairy products – Virtual Poland

In January, 2016. Monthly index of global food prices FAO dropped to 150.4 points. to quotations from December 2015. at the level of 153.4 points. All products become cheaper Cart: cereals, oils, dairy, meat and sugar.

In January, 2016. Index of global food prices FAO decreased by 1.9 percent. Compared with January 2015. Food prices were about 16 percent. lower – reported the Foundation of Assistance Programmes for Agriculture.

FAO index decreased progressively from April 2014. due to the high global supply of most commodities included in its composition. In September and October 2015. Prices increased slightly, and again from November decrease. In the whole of 2015. The main factors that influenced the decline in food prices last year were high supply of raw materials with limited demand and the appreciation of the US dollar.

In January this year. become cheaper compared to December all the commodities included in the index, most sugar (-4.1 per cent.) and dairy products (-2.9 per cent.), and to a lesser extent, cereals (-1.7 per cent.), vegetable oils (- 1.7 per cent.) and meat (-1.1 per cent.).

According to the FAO, world prices of grain were in January this year. the lowest since June 2010., which is caused by high supply of wheat and corn in the world, increasing competition for export markets and maintaining a strong US dollar exchange rate.
