Director of Elblag port Arkadiusz Zgliński told PAP that the importation of goods from Russia, namely Kaliningrad, favors low exchange rate of the ruble. “From the Polish exports to Russia are now only building materials. For this range of goods imported from Russia and it is expanding quite rapidly”, – noted Zgliński.
Still the most popular goods imported from Russia by boat to the port of Elblag is coal. But from the beginning of the year Polish companies producing feed also brought loads of soybeans, in a few days is to enter the port barge with rape. It also ordered the corn feed manufacturing company. Zgliński admitted he did not know whether the rape will go to the Polish market or third country markets.
The Polish company in Russia also ordered shipments expanded clay and PVC granules – the goods as soon as they reach the Polish port of Elblag through.
Zgliński admitted that occasionally arrive to Elblag also loads of birch for the production of paper. “We do not count, however, that type of product, because it does not come from the circuit, and deep Russia, including Siberia. Wood occasionally comes to Kaliningrad waterway, often it is transported by rail, and we think also train enters the Polish, because transshipment of the tracks on the shoulders will be so expensive that the import of wood can become unprofitable, “- said Zgliński.
Since the beginning of the year in Elblag port has handled 22 thousand. tonnes of goods. That’s more than in the same period last year, but less than in the summer months when it is handled here approx. 40 thousand. tonnes of goods.
In the development of the port of Elbląg main handicap is difficult to reach this place, because in the village Nowakowo before it passes through the river Elbląg pontoon bridge that needs to pull off when the barge floated. However, the bridge is designed so that it can not be moved when the water level in the river is too low or too high. At the moment there are no concrete plans to build at the site of the new bridge.
