New regulations for street lighting will increase expenditure by 100 million – Virtual Poland

From the municipalities will be removed in part financing costs of lighting roads and expressways and will be forwarded to the General Directorate for National Roads and Motorways – the assumption Law amendment energy, to which some minor amendments adopted on Thursday by the Senate.

According to the Act, municipalities will continue to pay for part of national roads, also outside building, intended for pedestrians or bicycles (eg. pavements, cycle paths, etc.) that require separate lighting.

The senators welcomed further specifying minor fixes. They assume, as the rapporteur said Senator Stanislaw Jurcewicz (PO), if the road outside the building serve the local movement, lighting costs will cover the municipality.

The amendment of the provisions sought by the municipality for a long time. They argued that want to pay for lighting, but only those roads that serve residents of municipalities, as lighting transit routes do not have the means.

“The bill restores normality – the municipality will pay only for those parts of the roads that serve residents “- argued during the debate in the Senate, the second rapporteur, senator Ireneusz Niewiarowski (PO).

He recalled that the current law dates from 2003, when Poland had 700 km of motorways and expressways, so the lighting is not consuming such large expenses like today, when motorways and expressways is 3000 km.

According to the project due to the novel about 80 million zł remain in the budgets of municipalities and will go to the real needs of local communities. The law will increase spending while national road administration, ie. The General Directorate for National Roads and Motorways, about 100 million zł.
