ENERGY CONSUMPTION IN POLAND ON THE CAPITA IS ABOUT 40 PROC. HIGHER THAN IN THE WEST. TO CHALLENGE FOR URBAN

The challenge for the Polish cities is becoming an increasing number of residents and growing with it demand for energy. At the same time, city authorities constantly strive for savings. Combining these two processes is made possible by the intelligent management of energy consumption. In Poland, however, there is still much to be done – per capita consume up to 40 percent. more energy than in the West …

– The amount of primary energy consumed per unit of GDP in Poland is still two times higher than in developed countries of Western Europe. The amount of primary energy per capita is about 40 percent. higher than in Western Europe. Over the last 25 years significantly we raised energy efficiency in our country, but this does not mean that we do not have more opportunities. They are huge – says Jacek Łukaszewski, CEO of Schneider Electric Poland.

As the expert, in Poland installed capacity of electricity is similar to the level of 25 years ago. At this time, however, the economy has evolved considerably. With increasing energy efficiency for GDP growth did not go increasing energy consumption.

According to the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development already by 2012. Polish GDP has doubled in relation to 1989. Meanwhile, according to Eurostat data, energy consumption Electricity in Poland increased between 1990-2012 year. Just about 27 percent.

– Energy efficiency in our country has increased. The same energy we are able to handle a much larger economy – marked Łukaszewski.

underlines that energy efficiency is particularly important in cities. At the moment, the world approx. 50 per cent. of the population lives in cities and consumes approx. 70 percent. electricity. In 2050. Already 70 percent. But humanity will live in cities, which may affect a significant increase in demand for energy.

– The most effective and cheapest way to meet the greater demand for energy is energy efficiency – adds the expert.

Limit This trend can intelligent technologies. Thanks to them, the city can not only reduce energy demand, but also reduce the environmental impact and costs.

– We’re talking about it: more for less. More efficiency, more reliability, higher scale, but at the cost of reducing or at least not to increase them – says Łukaszewski the ECG in Katowice.

Energy efficiency is also an element of competition for cities with residents, and thus tax revenues and economic development. By lowering energy consumption and its cost rises quality of life of residents.

– Nobody wants to wake up in the morning in a cold or dark apartment, where there is no electricity or water – notes CEO of Schneider Electric. – In view of this city must evolve and this in an effective manner, that is, they must balance the budget and provide a growing population, more and more services.

The intelligent and efficient technologies are needed not only in terms of electricity consumption. Exactly the same is increasing water consumption, are increasingly burdened roads and collective communication. In all these areas of the city must use solutions that allow to handle the growing number of people with limited resources.
