“Poland flag has roots in the country of Piast” – Dziennik.pl

Today we celebrate Flag Day of the Republic of Polish, which was established as a holiday under the Act of 20 February 2004.

Jaroslaw Pych explains in an interview with Radio Information Agency that colors of white and red refer to medieval coat of arms of the Piast . The belt comes from the white eagle – explains – the strip of red color comes from the shield. Officially in public spaces such arms appears on the seal of Premysl II, though, adds the curator, there are reasons to believe that the mark had been used earlier.

Jaroslaw Pych advises that For centuries the symbol of the Poles was a white eagle on a red background, it was only during the November Uprising began to appear in the web of applause. The expert points out that the white and red emblems already as a permanent national colors began to appear regularly during the First World War.
