The tourist traffic, especially from Germany charter flights are a chance for a new airport Olsztyn Masuria. Port Szymany is 15 civilian airport on the map Polish.
From Thursday held there are regular flights – Berlin and Krakow.
More tourists
Sebastian Gościniarek, founder and partner at BBSG says he is a moderate optimist on the future of the new port.
– Strengthening the tourist offer of the region of Warmia and Mazury both for foreign tourists, namely from Germany, but also for tourists from the country. People who live in Malopolska, or Lower Silesia has so far not taken into account Mazur as a tourist destination, mainly because of the distance. If will be available flights, Masuria will be much closer to Wroclaw, than in the past – says a guest of the Polish Radio 24.
20 years is not enough?
According to announcement, the airport in Szymany is expected to reach profitability after 20 years of operation.
– If you look at profitability from a purely accounting point of view, if the airport is able to maintain this perspective 20 years is even too optimistic. But we can not not to notice some additional values that the airport generates for the region. If you wanted to translate these additional value for the money, it may be that it is not generating the airport so big losses – says the caller.
The authority has to pay extra for the operation of airports 3 million dollars per year.
Port seeks also on route to Munich, London and Dublin.
