Prof. Grzegorz Kolodko delivered in Polish Economic Society lecture Fri. “Whither the world”. The occasion was to give him the Special Jury Award of Honour PTE for scientific achievements and promoting Polish economy in the world. The award was conferred for the first time.
As he spoke in eulogy chairman of the Scientific Council of PTE prof. Boguslaw Fiedor, achievements Kołodko more than 400 publications, including 50 monographs, publications translated into 26 languages. Only the book “Wandering World” has been translated into 10 languages. During his lecture Kolodko argued that the question “Whither the world?” is related to the question where the economy is heading.
He said that worries him some economists attempt to distance themselves from social issues and focusing on too formal, almost mathematical terms of economics. “You can not inject life even in the most complicated mathematical formula” – he argued.
He argued that if you keep economists will “cherish GDP as the most synthetic measure at the macroeconomic level,” and as the main objective of economic activity, it will lose sight of the “many aspects of human functioning.”

Kolodko also argued that economics should be the future more and more interdisciplinary science – are increasingly pay attention primarily all on ecology and social issues.
