Geert Verbeeck, CEO and Vice President the Management board of ArcelorMittal Poland announced that on April 30 is scheduled to start the process to stop the blast furnace No. 5 to repair. The work will last 80 days.
already bought all the materials and services for the purpose of investment. The scope of the renovation includes: replacement of “hearth” (ie carbon lining) of the furnace, installation of 1,700 tons of new coolers and 24 new sets of nozzle; modernization of automation and control system of the furnace; construction of a new closed cooling system of the furnace; modernization of the extraction system and the replacement and repair of heaters. The cost of all jobs will exceed 175 million zł.
According to company representatives, the last three steps significantly reduce the impact of Krakow steelworks on the environment. With a new closed cooling system for cooling steel mill blast furnace will no longer charge a water from the river.
Modernization two electrostatic precipitators (hall namiarowni and casthouse) will meet the requirements for emissions to air arising from EU IED in July this year, so two years before the due date of the law. In turn, the replacement and repair of heaters will raise the temperature of the hot blast of approx. 100 deg. Celsius, thereby reducing coke consumption.
As stressed Verbeeck, repair of blast furnace is just one of the projects executed by ArcerolMittal in Krakow steel mill this year. The other is the modernization of oxygen converter steel plant and investments in the hot and cold. The total value of these projects exceeds 500 mln zł.
ArcelorMittal Poland is the biggest steel producer in Poland. The company brings together approx. 70 percent. production potential of the Polish steel industry; it consists of five steel mills – in Krakow, Dabrowa Mining, Sosnowiec, Świętochłowice and Chorzów. The group has also belong Zdzieszowice Coke Plant, which is the largest coke producer in Europe. AMP employs more than 11 thousand. people, and together with its subsidiaries – more than 14 thousand. It belongs to the global ArcelorMittal – the world’s largest steel producer.
