A few years ago, trains InterRegio arouse strong emotions, and a large group of passengers fiercely defended them. The Government considered that they are a scandal, because podbierają configurations TLK customers, subsidized from the budget, and this actuating Regional Transport company it more and more into debt.
InterRegio defenders responded that trains shall fill a gap in the Polish tracks and in turn attract new passengers. However, recent months are already liquidation next InterRegio and the slow twilight of the brand. Since September disappear all such calls except for a few on the Warsaw-Lodz, subsidized by the Lodz marshal.
The trains InterRegio showed that the railways in Poland has a chance, even in smaller cities, provided that it is cheap. Passengers agreed to on a fairly miserable traveling conditions, but drew their low prices and decent speed. The decision to liquidate InterRegio is as much economic as political.
It is true that close to bankruptcy Regional Transport have a fleet of dilapidated and a bit of a shame it was let off on the tracks wagons that are suitable rather for scrap. But it is also true that today this self-governing company is rescued by the government, which shall transmit more than 700 million zł not in yet, continue to compete with state-owned PKP Intercity.
Already famous action in defense of the InterRegio Jan Matejko linking Warsaw to Cracow, he showed that on these trains is not dependent on either the Ministry of Infrastructure and Development, or the current management of Regional Transports. Unfortunately, after InterRegio remains a gap, which the company PKP Intercity will not fill. If only because it does not get more subsidies from the state budget and not a substitute for all new TLK trains liquidated.
As a result, some passengers choose other means of transport – car or bus. End InterRegio is a great news for all road hauliers. And I do not think this should be the goal of government when we spend a huge EU funds to modernize the track, and our highways are getting more congested.
End InterRegio shows a vanity railway offer in our country. Of course Pendolino trains and shorter journey times on several lines attracted passengers, but the rest of Polish railways is practically cut off. Smaller cities, even if you are on the main lines are often available single long-distance trains during the day. No wonder that, in turn, their inhabitants use very often.
The one who has hope that after the elections awaits us a breakthrough, it may be hard to disappoint. Laboratory Law and Justice is now Podkarpackie Province, where the party governs alone. And that is where this year there was a massive cut local calls. Who likes to turn, this really is not in Poland for whom to vote.
