Grande Hotel San Calogero was supposed to be a gem. Local authorities have a small town in the south of Sicily back in the 50s invented to build it on top of the mountain Kronio. The area includes thermal baths and a basilica. The hotel was to promote the area and attract tourists.
Construction began in 1954 and lasted almost 30 years.
When it was completed in the early 80s, and the hotel already had all five floors and space for 300 guests, it turned out that the conflict arose, who has to manage it. The dispute lasted 10 years, and the hotel still has not been opened to tourists. At that time the building fell into disrepair and the local authorities decided to carry out the repair.
In 1993, the hotel was again ready to accept guests. There was even the official inauguration, but then closed it again. The reason? It turned out that within 39 years, no one realized that the building is not connected to the sewage system!
In 2000, the authorities finally decided to connect the hotel to the sewage system, already developed the project. But again, there was a problem – no one thought that you will have to pay for it. Lack of funding made the work never started. To this day, the hotel stands empty.
