Liberty Global, owner of UPC, is in advanced talks on a takeover Multimedia – set the “Puls Biznesu”. Information confirmed in five independent sources. Interested did not want her to comment.
– Contract waiting to be signed already for three weeks – says one of our sources.
Multimedia is not the first time talk of potential willing on the sale and after the first time finalizing talks with UPC. A similar deal was on the table, three years ago, but the agreement did not happen. This time the talks are full of emotions – even two weeks ago, the company talked about the exchange of shares in which Thomas Ulatowski and Ygal Ozechov, owners of Multimedia, have acquired stake in UPC (less than 2 percent. Action has also Andrzej Rogowski, president of the company). After due diligence on the operator belonging to the Americans, however, they decided to sell all of Liberty Global and a final delayed.
If Multimedia merge with UPC, the emergence of a player with half of the cable market in the country, 2.2 million customers and 2 2 billion zł revenue. It is not clear, however, including because of the opinion of the antitrust authorities. The new operator would probably sell part of the network in locations where infrastructure UPC coincides with cables Multimedia. So he ordered the regulator a few years ago, when the UPC bought the network operator Aster. UPC retained clients, and the network passed to Netia’s long and winding path. Probably this time the OCCP put similar conditions, and the analysis preceding the decision could drag on for months – which in the case of UPC and Astera delayed consolidation in the rapidly changing market cable operators.
