Nord Stream 2: request for permission to build withdrawn from the OCCP. What next for the pipeline? – Polish Radio

– The signatories of the agreement shareholders of Nord Stream AG 2 today withdrew a request for proceedings in Poland on consent for the merger. The decision does not affect the implementation of the project, which will be proceeded according to plan – a consortium wrote in the message sent to PAP.


 

As explained, the decision applies only to the purchase of shares by the Western partners of Gazprom. – The current ownership structure of Nord Stream AG 2 remains unchanged. Also, the project schedule remains unchanged – explained.


 

– Today Engi, Gazprom, OMV, Shell, Uniper and Wintershell (the applicant) submitted a joint response to the objections of Polish competition authority on the management control of the concentration relating to the planned appointment by the applicants joint venture “- stressed the shareholders the transmitted information.

 

– Following the applicant decided to withdraw together with a note addressed to the concentration of Polish office – ticked.


 

“Applicants believe that the project is key”

 

– All applicants believe that the project is crucial for the European energy system and therefore each of them individually will take into account alternative ways to pay contributions into it – pointed.


 

– Decision applicants to withdraw the proposal will not affect the continued operation of the Nord Stream AG 2, having to plan to build a pipeline Nord Stream 2, including the schedule – they added.


 

July 22 Office of Competition and Consumer Protection announced that it has reservations about the construction of the Nord Stream pipeline 2. He considered that the formation of a group that would build and operate the pipeline Nord Stream 2, and so strengthen the strong position of Gazprom in Poland.

On Tuesday, a consortium delegation was in Warsaw to meet with representatives of the OCCP.


 

The Office of Competition and Consumer Protection in its Communication of 22 July stressed that “the concentration may lead to restrictions of competition.” “At the moment, Gazprom holds a dominant position in the supply of gas to the Polish and the transaction could lead to further strengthening the bargaining power of the company to customers in our country,” – said, quoted in the head office Marek Niechciał.


 

Last year, shareholders of the planned Nord Stream 2, six companies: OAO Gazprom of Russia, Uniper SE of Germany, Engi from France, OMV AG of Austria, the Anglo-Dutch Royal Dutch Shell plc and the German BASF SE / Wintershall Holding GmbH turned to the Polish antitrust authority for permission to allow the establishment of the company in Switzerland. The company would design, finance, build and operate two parallel subsea pipelines. They run from the Russian coast of the Baltic Sea to the starting point near Greifswald in northeastern Germany. Their total capacity is 55 billion cubic meters of gas a year.


 

Warsaw strongly opposes the construction of the next (after dwunitkowym Nord Stream 1) bypassing Poland undersea bus transport gas.


 

M.in. Minister. energy security in the Chancellery Piotr Naimski reiterated that Poland is opposed to this project, because from the economic, commercial consolidates Gazprom’s dominant position in the region, which is not in the interest of the Polish.

 

The issue of the construction of the Nord Stream 2 was also raised during the interview Andrzej Duda and Barack Obama during the July NATO summit in Warsaw. He said after a meeting of leaders of the presidential minister Krzysztof Szczerski, both heads of state a large part of the conversation devoted to energy security and critically evaluated the project Nord Stream 2.
