Possible joint purchase of energy resources by the countries of the Commonwealth. At the end of the month, the European Commission will present its ideas on the matter. The deputy head of the Commission Marosz Szefczowicz, consulted them today with Prime Minister Ewa Kopacz and Minister of Economy Janusz Piechocińskim.
Prime Minister Ewa Kopacz drew particular attention to the introduction of European solidarity mechanisms in the event of a supply crisis and the transparency of the gas market. Marosz Szefczowicz agreed with the head of the Polish government on the need to develop the energy infrastructure, strengthen the bargaining position of the European Union countries on major suppliers of energy, and to speak with one voice on the international forum.
After a meeting with Polish Minister of Economy Marosz Szefczowicz said that Western countries and companies, as opposed to those from the east want a business approach to joint purchasing gas. He stressed that the committee examines the possibility of merging the two positions. As for a solution that would be voluntary, but would allow for a combination of demand, especially in the case of market collapse or crisis situations. At the same time, these solutions, in the opinion of the deputy head of the Commission, must comply with European Union law and obligations to the World Trade Organization.
Deputy Prime Minister Janusz Piechociński Marosz Szefczowicza also informed about the Polish efforts to become independent of gas supplies from the East. The Deputy Prime Minister said that since the beginning of the year, the amount of gas coming from the west prevails over the East. Investment in infrastructure, as in Germany, according to Janusz Piechociński, allows you to import more than 5 billion cubic meters of gas from the west. Piechociński minister believes that by the end of next year, this figure may reach 7 billion cubic meters of gas.
The Ministry of Economy of the 2012 show that Poland within 12 months consumed almost 16 billion cubic meters of blue fuel. Accurate European Commission’s proposals on energy union will be known on February 25.
