Public Transport: Paper tickets go of the past – Interia

More and more Polish municipalities withdraws from the use of paper tickets, photo. Marcin Smulczyński / Agency SE / East News

in December, monthly sales of paper tickets has been suspended in Rzeszow. Passengers who have so far benefited from such a solution remained switch to Rzeszów City Card. Since March 1, paper tickets network also disappeared from Olsztyn. Also in this case, the travelers had to reach for the card transport. Even earlier similar amendment introduced in Tarnow and Bialystok.

More recently, similar plans announced by the representatives of the Transportation Association of Municipal GOP, the largest manager of public transport in the Upper Silesia Coal Basin, which brings together 29 local municipalities and whose services are daily used by about . million passengers. Presented to the media schedule assumes that from May will begin to disappear from the sale of season tickets and this process will continue until 1 August. As explained by representatives of KZK GOP, this has lead to reach for the Silesian Card Public Service people who regularly use the services of the Union (it is estimated that there are approx. 110,000), but so far ignored it introduced last fall solution (in total issued so far approx. 40,000 cards). Single tickets for the event will remain on sale, but their fate is sealed.

– One also eventually disappear – says Roman Urbanczyk, president of KZK GOP. Remains an open question whether it will happen later this year (which is unlikely), or rather in the future. Perhaps their sales will occupy only the driver.

And this is already a novelty. Because the similarly radical step has not decided none of the major Polish cities. It is true that two years ago the media anonsowały end of paper tickets in Poznan (totally had them replace the card PEKA), but it was a message decidedly premature. One-off tickets have not disappeared, and – as confirmed by Bartosz Trzebiatowski of the Public Transport Authority in Poznań – certainly not disappear from the sale, but today the number of card users PEKA is approaching 450,000.

– Paper tickets must remain even with for this reason that when someone comes to Poznan and wants to use public transport, it must have the possibility – says Bartosz Trzebiatowski. He added that the data published by the Poznan ZTM that in January, just such a one-off tickets accounted for 17 percent of all tickets sold in February this indicator has fallen to less than 16.5 percent.

Media announced the end of paper tickets do not They confirmed also for Elbląga. If you believe what you read was four years ago, paper tickets will disappear from this city already in 2013.

– We assumed, however, evolutionary way. Currently they coexist both the city card and paper tickets. We respect this way habits of certain social groups – explains Zbigniew Walnut, director of the Urban Transport in Elblag.

One of the few cities that have decided to complete the digital revolution and definitive departure from the paper is Rybnik. He says Kazimierz Berger, director of the Road Transport in the city came to this almost 10 years ago and now ZTM not at all used paper tickets.

– If the bus is getting someone who does not have a city card it can pay the toll from the driver. Receives the confirmation in the form of printing fiscal – says Kazimierz Berger, director of the Road Transport in Rybnik.
