Polish National Bank today announced the new Polish banknote circulation in denominations of 500 zł with the image of John III Sobieski. Circulation is expected in February 2017 year.

The bill was the image of John III Sobieski, thus retaining the chronological continuity of the series was “The Lord of the Polish”. The image of a banknote 500 zł designed by Andrzej Heidrich, author of other Polish circulation banknotes in denominations of 10, 20, 50, 100 and 200 zł. On the other bills are Polish rulers from the Piast dynasty and the Jagiellonian dynasty in chronological order corresponding to the growth of denominations: Mieszko I, Boleslaw the Brave, Casimir the Great, Wladyslaw Jagiello and Sigismund I the Old. The producer of banknotes on behalf of National Bank of Poland is Polish Security Printing Works.

As explained by representatives of the National Bank of Poland, in the last years record increase in the value of currency in circulation and the increased demand for high-denomination banknotes, particularly in the denomination of 200 dollars. – One of the objectives of the NBP is to provide a safe and effective cash transactions in Poland, which will suit the needs of citizens and businesses. The introduction into circulation of the banknote 500 zł fits in this task. In the first years of the banknote 500 zł it will be used primarily to keep a stock of strategic NBP is so rarely seen in circulation. For example, Czech banknote with a value of 5,000 crowns is the equivalent of 822.9 zł, Danish crowns in 1000 – 598.1 zł, and the Croatian kuna in 1000 – 594.3 zł. The highest value in Europe has 1000 Swiss francs – the equivalent of 4002.5 zł (as of May 24, 2016 r.). In contrast, the new banknote 500 zł is now the equivalent of about 114 euros, and its purchasing power can be compared to a bank note of 200 euro in the euro area.



Modernization of Polish bank notes

Polish National Bank in recent years conducted modernization of the Polish banknotes equipping them with the latest in the world of security.
