There is no consensus in the EU on the draft energy union – Polish Radio

The project prepared by the European Commission consults on Monday in Warsaw, Vice-President of the European Commission and Commissioner for. Marosz Szefczovicz energy union.

As said after meeting with Deputy Prime Minister Janusz Piechocińskim, the framework of the project, the Commission intends to present the 25th.
– This will be a very detailed action plan for the entire term of the Commission. Following the adoption of this framework will be at the expert level to discuss the role that Poland could play in regional cooperation in the context of energy union so that translate into energy security – Szefczovicz said.

Western Europe reluctant

She said that in the EU there are two approaches to the subject. Countries and companies in the western part of the Union believe that the gas market is sufficiently liquid for them, and the impact of its shape should be the primary business drivers and purely economic.
– On the other hand, we have the countries of central and eastern Europe, which have their experience, often were in a difficult situation. Looking at the price you can generally judge that they are paying more for gas than further west. From this region comes to expect that the better we should use the political profile of the EU to achieve better conditions on gas – Szefczovicz said.

He noted that the Commission is essential to transparency, also in the gas purchase contracts. – We are committed to transparency, to have guarantees that the agreement – signed by countries or companies – are in line with European rules – said the Commissioner.

What the EC project involves?

In terms of gas supply, the Commission wants to find and propose a solution which on the one hand would be voluntary, but on the other hand, would allow for effective response to crises and market failures in full compliance with the law European and international obligations – said the Commissioner.

Energy Union is one of the priorities of the current European Commission. The point is the limitation of the EU’s energy dependency and increase energy security both for electricity and gas. Actions in this area to be connected with the implementation of EU climate policy.
