The world as we know largely owe fossil fuels. The time came to say goodbye to them – says Marcin Popkiewicz, mega-trends analyst and author of the book “Energy revolution. But why?”. In his opinion, there is no technological barriers, to do it.
According to Popkiewicz, this revolution in Poland should be seen as an opportunity to develop a modern and innovative industry: if it had been created the right conditions, Polish company’s renewable energy sector could achieve international success to measure Pesa, Solaris or Newagu.
– From a historical perspective we live in an incredibly convenient. Because most of the history of the social structure look like that at the top of the social hierarchy were a few percent of the elect and the rest feverishly worked to this, and only this group lived as comfortably – says Popkiewicz.
suggestively calculates the energy we get from a liter of oil or gasoline, corresponding week of the operating intensive work man working eg. in the field or carrying a burden.
– Since when we have oil, coal, gas – we do not need slaves or peasants serfs. We need workers, engineers, people in the administration, the creators. Most of us no longer have to work hard and we could do something else. The world is thus much has changed – there were widespread human rights, property rights, women’s rights – things that once were not obvious – said the author.
Popkiewicz but there is no doubt – this is the last century of domination of fossil fuels . Firstly, because it is depleted. This does not mean that they do not exist, but it easily accessible deposits are exhausted, making it increasingly difficult and expensive it is to recover them. To these have been added to climate change, and in fact his dangerous warming. That’s why at last year’s conference in Paris nations of the world have agreed that you can not afford to increase the planet’s temperature higher than 1.5 – 2 degrees Celsius.
– The last time the Earth was about 2 degrees warmer, the level of the sea was higher by twenty yards away. A 2014 enrolled as the hottest ever temperature measurements. 2015 was even warmer. This has consequences – pointed Popkiewicz. He recalled that the conflict in Syria to a large extent contributed to the largest in the modern history of this country drought. Of course, imposed on it are other factors, but certainly drought situation destabilized.
– As a result, we have hundreds of thousands of refugees, and if we look further predictions of climate change, both for the Middle East and Africa, in perspective, we have dozens, if not hundreds of millions of climate refugees. And then what do we do? We accept all of them? We accept some? Which? And if you do not accept, and those millions, however, you will want to come, then what do we do? Then there will be easy decisions – he says.
That’s why the world has decided that fossil fuels have to give up – pointed. This – as it is called – megatrend applies not only in the EU but in his direction also follow the US and China. In the United dozen closed coal plants, but in the last year. Year three-quarters of the investment in the US energy sector investments in renewable energy sources, the rest of the gas. China, the world’s biggest “polluter”, they have a plan to change energy model. They want to create a big market of renewable energy sources in order to built on the companies that generate innovative solutions, then these solutions will go to the global market, which will mean thousands of billions of dollars for the Chinese sector of renewable energy sources.
– the EU, China , the United States and other countries realize that there is a future that is not only safe, but also business and future jobs – says the author.
in his opinion, thinking about the energy revolution in the category of chance, not a threat , is a way for Polish. Popkiewicz adds that we have, of course, its own characteristics, because the Polish coal was, is, and for some time it will. Transforming our energy must therefore be gradual.
– We can not from one day to go to a different energy mix – it must take 20, 30 years. The more that’s when – contrary to the claims of proponents of major resource Polish black gold – over to us coal, whose production will be economically justified – he added.
Popkiewicz is convinced that it can be with us to move away from fossil fuels and create a hundred percent Polish, stable and secure energy system. Would be for him to make energy from wind, solar, biogas, demand management, smart grids, storage of heat, energy-efficient transport and other innovative solutions. Others, eg. Germany and the Scandinavians are working on such solutions. – There is no technological barriers, or even longer economic barriers are in our heads – he argues.
In his opinion, we should not “maintain” the mining industry, most – in his opinion – the inefficient sector, whose contribution to our economic growth it is actually negative, which receives money sectors in which we should invest. – Do not earn on the preservation of areas of a bygone era – he said.
In his opinion in Poland would create a market for example. Zeroenergetyczne on houses. – We have engineers who can do them. When you create a market for them, then after a few years we will be able to leave the offer on the outside. We should build in Poland, the market for these solutions and develop their own specialties. For example, biogas – pointed.
The fact that it works testifies – in his opinion – an example of the great successes of Polish transport companies as Newag, PESA or Solaris.
– A few years ago we created Polish market, because local governments were needed modern trains, trams and buses. Companies have invested in innovative solutions and when our 40-million market has become for them too tight, began its international expansion – says Popkiewicz.
In his view, our rulers now have “an incredible opportunity for a good change,” to show that they found the energy system straight from the times of Gierek and go in the direction of the transformation, create lots of great jobs.
– Thinking of Silesia, we should not wonder how to maintain systemically unprofitable mines, but how to create future-oriented jobs – highlights .
