How much we lose standing in traffic jams? Each driver an average of 3.3 thousand. zł per year – Money.pl

Standing in a traffic jam, we lose 14.6 million zł per day, 321 million zł per month and more than 3.8 billion zł per year – according to a report by Deloitte and Targeo.pl. Each motorized inhabitant of the seven largest cities lost in traffic an average of 3.3 thousand. zł per year. Residents of the most congested Polish cities spend in them more than eight hours per month.

This is the fifth edition of the report, in which the time spent by drivers in traffic is converted to money. The situation is getting worse. Standing in a traffic congestion is costing us more and more. – In comparison with 2014 is worsening by up to 12 per cent., Or about 1.5 million zł per day, 34 million zł per month and 400 million zł per year. Moving on the microeconomic level, the cost of traffic jams for per capita – the driver of the seven cities rose by 18 percent. and an average of 3350 zł per year compared to 2848 zł in 2014. – said Rafal Antczak, a member of the board of Deloitte Consulting.

The most gridlocked city

The report was taken into account the seven largest Polish cities: Warsaw, Wroclaw, Krakow, Poznań, Gdańsk, Łódź and Katowice. The worst drivers are in Wroclaw: monthly spend in traffic jams 8 hours and 52 minutes. Not much better in Krakow – 8 hours and 36 minutes, and in Warsaw on 8 hours and 12 minutes. Drivers from Poznan spend in traffic jams month 8 hours and 9 minutes Lodz – 6 hours Gdansk 5 hours and Katowice – four hours and 57 minutes.

As calculates Deloitte, nominally in traffic most lost annually driver Warsaw: 3 976 zł. Calculating the amount of the number of cars and the average salary in the capital, it turns out that the driver in Warsaw lost annually in traffic of 70 per cent. the average monthly salary. It is, however, less than record-holders, which Wrocławianie – they lose 81 percent. the average monthly salary per year. This is the result of relatively high nominal cost of traffic jams – that is 3 549 zł per month – relatively low wages and ever-increasing time wasted in traffic jams. For residents of the capital of Wielkopolska annual cost of congestion is up 74 percent. their average salary.

The lowest nominal cost of traffic jams incur driver in Lodz and Gdansk, which is 2 187 and 2 223 zł per year. However, in comparison with the average wage in these cities, the annual cost of traffic jams in Lodz was 57 percent. the average monthly salary, while in Gdansk was only 43 percent.

Budget plus

As the authors of the report, what for drivers and taxpayers is the cost, it is due to the state budget. And this is powered by, among others, VAT receipts and excise taxes on gasoline burned in traffic jams. It turns out that the state budget earned traffic last year 467 million zł, or about 14 million zł less than a year earlier. It should be recalled that the fuel last year was exceptionally cheap. Most budget earned standing in traffic jams in Warsaw 152 million zł. Together with Wroclaw (84 million zł), the capital budget has provided half of the proceeds from the traffic jams.

What to do to spend less time in traffic jams? – In Warsaw we managed to eliminate the biggest bottleneck year – in the Avenue of Krakow. This is the effect the reconstruction of departure from the city in the direction of Krakow and Katowice – says Rafał Mikołajczak, CEO of Indigo, service provider Targeo.pl. – Record the lowest average speed bottleneck is now 2.2 km / h. and belongs to the street of Victory in Wroclaw. Second place belongs to Warsaw at a speed of 3.2 km / h. on the streets of the French and Cybernetics. Third place was taken by boat to the streets of Northern and gardens and the result of 3.7 km / hr. There are several places where there has been a spectacular improvement, but our ranking shows that the total number and scale of bottlenecks is not decreasing, “- he added.

That is why, in his opinion, the city should go back to simple reserves that without a huge investment to improve traffic. For example, prohibit parking on roadways or regulate the traffic light.
