Polish miners working in the Czech Republic will not lose employment. The company OKD withdrew from the idea of an immediate closure of all coal mines. He informed about the new management of the company during a meeting with the mining trade unions.
The threat of liquidation emerged late last year. Then the then board of OKD threatened that if the government does not provide funding company that this year will be abolished all property belonging to the mines. After the failure of the talks the main shareholder Zdenek Bakala gave his actions co-owners. This allowed for further negotiations with the government. The new leadership does not hide that the closure of the mines will be necessary, but wants to move it up in time. The dramatic situation of the company is the result of poor management and low coal prices.
The OKD the mining of coal in the Ostrava region operates nearly 18,000 people . Among them, more than two thousand Poles, who daily commute to work in the vicinity of Bielsko-Biala. These are the miners who have died or have been dismissed from the liquidated Polish mines.
The Czech government is preparing an assistance program for employees of OKD, he will not, however, include the Poles, because they live outside the territory of the Czech Republic.
