Beata Szydło nine countries signed a letter to the head of the European Commission concerning. Nord Stream II – Polish Radio

                             - We need to reduce our dependence on Russia – says Anders Fogh Rasmussen, and warns against the dangers arising from the energy dependence of Europe from Russia.

– I think that energy security is one of the most important elements of our overall security. Europe today is very poor because of our dependence on Russian energy – said in Brussels, Rasmussen.

According to him, that European countries are heavily dependent on energy imports from Russia, has an impact on the discussions of the EU sanctions against this country is the EU’s approach to Ukraine.

“Russia is a military threat and energy”

Former Secretary General of the North Atlantic Alliance is of the opinion that the construction of the Nord Stream 2 it is not only a project directed against increasing Europe’s energy security, but also a sign of a lack of solidarity among the EU countries.

– I do not think that was the need to build the Nord Stream 2, because the capacity of the existing gas pipeline Nord Stream is not fully utilized – he stressed. – We need to reduce our dependence on Russian gas and oil.

– More than 60 per cent. measures that we pay for energy imports, goes to authoritarian regimes. Europe drives such regimes, this is ridiculous. We have to find an alternative to imported energy – he added.

The third thread of Nord Stream? Putin does not rule out

The former head of NATO pointed out that Russia is a military threat and energy. This is the first we have seen in the activities of this country in Ukraine.

– These are the realities. We do not know who will be next, but we know that the Russian doctrine is reserving the right to intervene in other countries, to protect what they see as the interests of the community of Russian-speaking – noted Rasmussen.

In his opinion, even more serious threat is indirect influence of Russia in Europe due to the fact that countries of the old continent are dependent on Russian energy.

– Russia may at any time cut us off from the supply of energy resources. This is not just a theory. In 2009. They cut off energy supplies to Ukraine for 13 days. It obviously struck in the Ukraine, but also other European countries. We must prevent this – said the former head of NATO.

Rasmussen points out that the EU needs to diversify its sources of supply, but also put their own resources, eg. Advanced biofuels.

– This is waste produced by industry, agriculture and households, which can be used to fuel cars. The same applies to wind or solar energy. Anything that can be used to reduce our imports of Russian energy, would strengthen Europe – he pointed out.

The former head of NATO praises the initiative of the European Commission, which proposes that each country had before the conclusion of the intergovernmental energy agreement with a third country submit it for approval. As rating is a tool that allows you to maintain European solidarity in the field of energy and prevent cross bypassing via pipelines.

In September 2015, representatives of Russia’s Gazprom, German companies E.On and BASF -Wintershall, the Anglo-Dutch concern Royal Dutch Shell, Austrian OMV and the French Engi (formerly GdF Suez) signed a legally binding shareholder agreement on the construction of the Nord Stream 2.

Nord Stream 2 in concept Gazprom has to help him if not stopping, at least in reducing the transit of gas to the EU via Ukraine what company wants to make 2020 a year.

Opponents of this project show that it can increase Europe’s dependence on Russian gas and make that Ukraine will lose importance as a transit country. While supporters of Nord Stream 2 argue that the new pipeline will increase the security of supply of raw materials and the possible banning of the European Commission’s laying – as demanded by some EU countries, including Poland – describe as interference in the free market economy.

– issues of energy supply will be used to settle as Europe and not in bilateral relations with suppliers – said Tusk.

in the opinion of the head of RE, if Nord Stream 2 arises, it will increase the dependence of the Community on single suppliers and concentrate 80 percent. Russian gas imports on one route. – Would lead to a dominant position of Gazprom in the German market, increasing its share of the company for more than 60 percent. From my perspective, the Nord Stream helps diversify nor would reduce our dependence on energy – he said.
