“It was the worst season crop currants in history” – said the PAP president of the National Association of Black Currant Wieslaw Growers Błocki. He pointed out that he himself cultivated this fruit of 30 years.

This year the price of currants in procurement was 30-50 gr per kilogram. Difference, like in the previous. Year protesting and asking for help, among others, to the Ministry of Agriculture. Błocki recalled that it was bad last year – then for these fruits were paid 55-60 cents per kg. Growers received support in the amount of 410 zł per hectare has been covered with a 11 thousand. ha.

About overproduction processing plants are already talking of 15 years, but officially none of the companies did not comment on this issue – said the Błocki.

According to experts, the demand for currants, which in recent years has slowed – this applies especially juice producers.

Błocki reported that the Ministry of Agriculture at the end of July there was a meeting on the situation in the market currants. Then Minister Marek Sawicki said that it would be best if farmers reduced their plantations by 30 percent. and przebranżowili to other crops – eg. blueberries or blueberry Caucasian. Resort offered assistance in the amount of 600 zł per hectare of plantation and such amount was in the draft regulation.

The Association believes that money should be allocated only to those who declare the liquidation or reduction of plantations for at least 5 years. A support should not be in the amount of 600 zł, but 3-5 thousand. zł per hectare – said Błocki.

In his opinion, this amount would be sufficient to cover such costs. Grubbed up, currants and entrée to other crops. He argued that if we all get equally, the situation will not change and next year again there is a problem with the sale of currants.

Błocki said that this week the association sent its opinion to the draft Regulation, now the decision is on the side of the ministry.

In 2014. Currants cultivated area amounted to 32 thousand. hectares and harvest more than 120 thousand. tonnes, although not all fruits have been harvested due to the low purchase price. It is estimated that this year’s crop area is similar, but increased yields, because began to bear fruit varieties more prolific.

Poland is the world’s largest producer of fruit blackcurrant and most important supplier of these fruits to international markets. It produces approx. 57 per cent. black currant in Europe and close to 53 percent. in the world.
