The Senate will take up a draft law on the restructuring of foreign currency housing loans in early September and senators of the Civic Platform will want to restore it to its previous shape – told PAP Kazimierz Klein, Senator.
“I am definitely opposed to this solution, which was adopted in the Parliament, I hope that it was just a mistake. Because this decision is very harmful for the banking system in Poland and we will try to at least restore proposals that were in the original version of the bill, so the cost sharing of 50 per cent. to 50 per cent. ” – He told PAP Klein.
“This issue will be dealt in the Senate at the beginning of September, we want to be well prepared so as not to make hasty decisions. To restore the previous version I tried to persuade colleagues and I think it’s easy to manage, “- he added.
He said that a meeting of the Senate Committee on Budget and Public Finance tentatively scheduled for 28 August. “I think that will be needed prior to speak on this matter in order to stabilize the markets. Then the committee meeting would be earlier,” – said Klein.
On Wednesday evening, the Parliament passed a law on the restructuring of foreign currency housing loans. MEPs adopted several amendments that quite significantly alter the new rules. According to one of them the bank has to redeem 90 percent. the difference between the value of the loan after conversion and the amount of debt, we would have at this point the borrower had in the past entered into an agreement with a bank for a loan in Polish zloty, not in foreign currency.
Originally it was planned that this difference would be half-sunk. Then the cost of the operation for the banks was estimated at 9-9,5 billion zł.
Krystyna Skowrońska, Member of PO informed PAP on Thursday that the amendments to the law on restructuring of foreign currency housing loans increase the liabilities of banks about 7 billion zł. (PAP)
