Russian company pointed out that last year It was a record when it comes to the supply of Russian gas to Germany. They reached 45.3 billion cubic meters, an increase of 17.1 percent. compared with the previous year. It also highlighted that the upward trend is maintained this year – in the first four months of supply of natural gas increased by 19 percent.

the Communication Gazprom stated that the participants of the Berlin meeting exposed the importance of the construction of the Nord Stream 2, paying attention to the increased demand for Russian energy carriers to Europe. “It was pointed out that the construction of a new gas main will not only increase the reliability of supply, but will also contribute to the development of the European gas market” – reads Gazprom.

Nord Stream 2 is the design of the new bus dwunitkowej gas with a capacity of 55 billion cubic meters of gas a year from Russia to Germany via the Baltic Sea. At the beginning of September 2015, the representatives of Russia’s Gazprom, German E.ON and BASF-Wintershall, the British-Dutch Royal Dutch Shell, French Engi (formerly GdF Suez) and Austrian OMV signed a legally binding shareholder agreement on the construction of the pipeline.

Opponents of this project show that it can increase Europe’s dependence on Russian gas and make that Ukraine will lose importance as a transit country. While supporters of Nord Stream 2 argue that the new pipeline will increase the security of supply of raw materials and the possible banning of the European Commission’s laying – as demanded by some EU countries, including Poland – would be interference in the free market economy.
