The former head of the EBRD re-elected. Beam busted – Wyborcza.biz

On Wednesday, the Board of Governors, bringing together 67 shareholders of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, held a meeting at which elected president for a four-year term. Candidacies were two – the current chief, Briton of Indian descent Sum Chakrabarti and NBP governor, Marek Belka. Belka lost to the British secret ballot. The candidacy of Marek Belka, NBP president was officially reported in March, he supported the PiS. The caption under candidacy filed Leszek Skiba, Deputy Minister of Finance and the Polish representative in the Council of Governors of the EBRD.

nominated candidate had, among others, come from a Member State of the EBRD, to have the right qualifications and experience to perform this function and – if selected – respect existing bank Code of Conduct (Code of Conduct).

– of course always in such elections for important positions last behind the scenes conversations and roll too diplomatic talks. I said in a newspaper interview that Marek Belka will be a candidate Polish government and report it officially -oświadczyła then Prime Minister of Law and Justice deputy, when asked at a press conference that the beam is the official candidate of the government at the head of the EBRD.

The term of office will expire Chakrabart in July. Then the Briton will start next. The term of office as President of the NBP Belka completed and in June. Candidate for his successor Adam Glapiński.

Belka expected such a result

Beam expecting their failure. – As for my candidacy for the EBRD, please all calm down, do not come out of it -I told the radio tok.fm, explaining that the candidacy to the EBRD does not affect its activities, because the British will gain a place. – One of the reasons why the British get a place in the EBRD is Brexit, the second reason is that you have to have a realistic attitude to the world – as we have a large country something will take, it will not give up – he explained.

The four-year Chakrabartiego term is considered to be difficult for the bank. Ukrainian crisis caused large losses and the bank ceased to engage in new investments in Russia, as a result of sanctions imposed on that country by the European Union. However, the same Briton is regarded as a modernizer, who put on a more active and flexible bank, and introduced more modern principles of management of the institution itself. His appointment was regarded initially controversial, including because all the previous heads of the bank came from Niemica or France.
